ToolsHovarn Meet
Meet anyone with one link
Create a room, copy its link, and talk on video in the browser. People who join see a short lobby with the name from their Hovarns account, then the call. Video runs on Jitsi, the open-source meeting software.
What Meet does
Video meetings, in the browser. Nothing to install.
Rooms you own
Each room belongs to the account that made it, and you can come back to it later with the same link.
One shareable link
Copy the join link and send it any way you like. Anyone with a Hovarns account can open it.
Lobby with your name
Before joining, check your camera and microphone. Your display name comes from your account.
Jitsi video in the page
Screen sharing, chat, raised hands, tile view and the other Jitsi controls, inside the Meet page.
Record on your computer
In Chrome or Edge on a computer, record the meeting in your browser. The file is saved on your device.
Signed-in only
Only signed-in Hovarns accounts can open a room page. The room name in the link is long and random.
What to know before you start
The limits, said plainly.
- Calls on the free Jitsi server end after about 5 minutes. Meet uses meet.jit.si, the public Jitsi server, which cuts off calls embedded in other websites after roughly five minutes. Re-join to continue.
- The first person may have to sign in to Jitsi. meet.jit.si can ask whoever opens a room first to sign in with a Google, GitHub or similar account to start it as the moderator.
- A paid upgrade is planned, not switched on. Jitsi as a Service (8x8) removes the time limit and the moderator sign-in. Meet is built so it can be switched on later; it is not on today.
- Your audio and video go through Jitsi (8x8), not Hovarns. Hovarns stores the room name, who created it and when. It never receives or stores your audio or video.
- Recording needs Chrome or Edge on a computer. Phones and some browsers cannot record a tab. Hovarns does not store recordings; tell people before you record.
Your data
Hovarns stores the room’s name and code, the account that created it and timestamps. Calls are handled by Jitsi (8x8) under their privacy policy. You can export or delete everything from your Hovarns account.
